The Prime Minister has issued a decision approving the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, Cai Mep - Thi Vai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau port has a special role, as an international gateway port.

Curently Cai Mep - Thi Vai port is one of the 21 largest ports in the world, it can receive container vessels of 200,000 tons and in the future will receive vessels up to 250,000 tons.

Recently, Cai Mep - Thi Vai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau deep-water port cluster has a high growth rate of receiving goods, the customs clearence goods at the seaport here is nearly approximately Ho Chi Minh City. In 2020, the economy be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the volume of container cargo through this port is still increasing. Every week, there are about 31 fixed container transport routes directly to vietnam's major import and export markets (20 routes to the US, two routes to Europe, nine intra-Asian and Middle East routes...).

Experts say it will become a regional and international transit port, sharing cargo with Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

To make Phu My town is a hub of connection of shipping lines, global cargo owners... it need to be developed transport infrastructure connecting the region and interregional with Cai Mep - Thi Vai; development of industrial parks (IP) in the port area to generate the good source; addition to logistics, depot, and warehousing service centers, docks for container vessels...

Over the past time, the Government, ministries and localities have drastically implemented investment projects, including Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, Phuoc An bridge, Ring Road No. 4. These are the projects that will reduce the load for National Highway 51, connecting to Ben Luc - Long Thanh, Dau Giay - Long Thanh expressway to Ho Chi Minh City and other localities. So it can be promoted and exploited all the advantages and potentials of Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster. Curently, three projects have been allocated capital in the period of 2021-2025. In which, Ba Ria- Vung Tau implemented two projects: Ring Road no. 4 – Section in the province and Phuoc An Bridge (expectedto start construction from the third quarterof2022).

In addition, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is also working with ministries, including the Ministry of Transport to study the deployment of railways connecting from industrial parks and ports of its to the other provinces. Along with that, BRVT has also been investing in Cai Mep - Thi Vai port route, 991B route, Phuoc Hoa - Cai Mep (put into operation)... connecting ports and industrial zones including Phu My 2 and Phu My 2 Expansion industrial zones of IDICO into the common transport system; The system of urban and inter-district roads is also invested and synchronously implemented with inter-regional transport projects.

This helps ensure smooth transportation, connectivity, promotion and full exploitation of the strengths and potentials of the province in the future and connecting with other localities in the southern key economicregion.
